I have HDMI port enabled HD compatible laptop and the videos my TV recorder creates is of MPEG-2 format video files like (TRP and VOB). I want to play them with windows media player on my laptop without changing their format. Do I have to load any kind of codec or special player to play them? Please help me out. And yes the videos are recorded in 1080i HD quality.

MPEG-2 format is a HD format that is used for interlaced videos. They are highly compressed video but exhibits stunning picture and sound quality. Since windows media player does not support this format so either you have to use MPEG-2 compatible player that can play this format or you need to convert this video to other format using any converter. The second option is very beneficial because by converting the MPEG-2 video to other formats you can carry easily carry them with your portable audio/video players. There are many converters in the market that can perform this work for you like VOB Converter for Mac, Moyea Video Converter etc. So, just use them and have fun.

You can’t play the MPEG-2 formats directly with the windows media player because it does not support its codec. Since you are hitting the quality so, you need any MPEG-2 compatible player to play those videos. And if you really want to watch that video in your laptop’s windows media player then you can do one thing, and that is convert that video to the window player compatible format. You can find any number of MPEG-2 compatible converters in the market like TRP Converter, AVCHD Converter etc. So, just use any of them and enjoy it in your laptop.
