“The disk is unreadable” How can I get rid of this error message?

One day when I was trying to access the external mac hard drive I got the following error code.
“The disk is unreadable: Do you want to initialize it now?”

Then I tried to solve the problem with disk utility I got the following error code

“Verify and Repair volume “disk1s3”
Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
Invalid node structure
Invalid B-tree node size
Invalid node structure
Invalid B-tree node size
Volume check failed.
Error: File system verifies or repair failed.”

What should I do so that I cannot get this error message again?

emilydcosta 		This error message shows that there is something wrong either with the data structures, profiles or library files of your hard disk. It may either because of node structure corruption or file system corruption. The very first message says that the disk is unreadable until you initialize it. In initialization you have to perform three steps which are Disk Formatting, Disk Verification and Disk Zeroing. But after initialization, all the data from your drive will be deleted.

To fix the problem of file system corruption or node structure corruption you can format your drive and can install the new copy of the system files and the data structures.

But formatting will also delete your data from the hard drive. You can recover your lost files with recovery software. Many good companies are available in the market which provides the recovery software like stellar phoenix data recovery software.
